Roysdon Model Two
MEASURING WHAT MOVES.
Before watches, Paul Roysdon's machines moved through the sky. Aircraft. Navigation systems. Control systems. Machines whose behavior could be described in mathematics, but whose success was determined in the physical world. The chronograph brought a familiar problem to an unfamiliar scale: measure motion precisely.
Push once. Time begins.
Push again. It stops.
Push once more. The machine returns to zero.
Beneath that simple interaction is an intricate choreography of wheels, levers, springs and the column mechanism. Model Two is where two parts of Paul's life meet: the engineer who spent decades studying motion, and the watchmaker learning to measure it mechanically.
AN EXOSKELETON OF ALUMINUM
The Model Two's case and bracelet are designed as a continuous exoskeleton, sculpted from lightweight 6061-T6 aerospace-grade aluminum. Material is removed wherever it is not structurally necessary, leaving an exposed architecture of curves, ribs and facets that flows from the case through the bracelet.
The broad surfaces are bead blasted to create a soft, satin-matte texture. Then every edge, curve and facet is individually mirror polished by hand.
The contrast transforms the case in changing light. As the watch moves, polished facets flash against the matte surfaces from almost every angle, creating an effect reminiscent of light moving across a guilloché dial. An aerospace-grade masterpiece.
THE DIAL AS AN INSTRUMENT
Not decoration merely for decoration's sake. Multiple guilloché fields. Machined gold chapter rings. Hand-produced indices. Super-LumiNova. Tiny typography transferred with a pad printer that Paul first had to design and build himself.
FINISHED IN DEPTH
A chronograph movement is already a machine of unusual depth: wheels above wheels, levers crossing bridges, cams, springs and polished steel components all interacting in a mechanical choreography. The in-house Model Two movement, inspired by the Hamilton Model 23, celebrates that complexity rather than hiding it.
Bridges, mainplate, wheels, cams, springs and steelwork are individually finished using traditional haute horlogerie techniques including anglage, mirror polishing, straight graining and pearlage, with rhodium, 24k gold and polished steel creating additional contrast between layers.
The purpose is not merely decoration. Each surface, edge and reflection helps reveal another level of the mechanism beneath it. The deeper you look into Model Two, the more there is to see.
